Sunday's opponents West Ham hadn't beaten the Gunners in 15 attempts, but their new manager Slaven Bilic has been backed in the transfer market and set a target of a top-eight finish by the club's owners. There was a managerial bow too for Steve McClaren at Newcastle, who hosted Southampton, while Stoke City faced Liverpool in a repeat of the final day of last season, when the Potters scored five first-half goals as Brendan Rodgers' side were thrashed 6-1.
