The film tells the touching story of Yin Lingzhi, a young girl from a mountain village who experienced the severe test of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation, and eventually grew into a staunch communist fighter and sacrificed her life for it.

Ekin Cheng plays Autumn Yip, a triad mobster who gets caught in Thailand and does 8 years in prison before being released. He visits "The Doctor" and asks for a loan before returning to Hong Kong where he is eagerly awaited by his old triad business partners as well as the Hong Kong police who have set up a special 'anti-Triad' unit just to keep tabs on Yip. The movie shows the confusion shown by the mob and the police over Yip's sudden philanthropy as he makes headline after headline for doing good deeds, not bad. This does not sit well with his old triad boss Brother Hung (Ti Lung) nor Hung's son, Gwai Chai (Stephen Fung). Gwai Chai in particular is itching to rise the ranks of the mob and take over and sets up deals on his own which increasingly puts pressure on himself to deliver. At the end of the Republic of China, Dr Chen Haoze, a doctor who had studied abroad, returned to China with new technology to set up a large pharmacy. The Yang family western pharmacy and the Fang family Chinese medicine shop in Fengtian City, with whom he was working, complemented each other's resources. A farmer and his wife live in a rural part of Inner Mongolia with their three children. Chinese population control policies prevent them from having any more. The farmer sets out for the nearest town to obtain birth control. He comes upon a Russian truck driver who has ended up in a lake. The farmer takes the man back to his farm, and after initially being appalled, the Russian becomes enchanted with the peaceful life of the countryside and decides to stay. But his presence presages big changes for the peasants.
