An accident occurred in the spinning shop of the melange mill. Worker Zoya Semenova was seriously injured. Some colleagues blamed the shop manager, Galina Demidova, for the incident, and an investigation began. The case was assigned to investigator Sukhobokova, an honest and principled woman. During the investigation, Sukhobokova meets with workshop workers and Demidova’s friends, who don't believe in Galina’s guilt...

The film is about the fate of the soldiers of the Izhora battalion. Formed from the factory’s workers, the battalion took part in decisive battles against the regular units of the Nazi army and ended its heroic journey on the coast of the Baltic Sea.

The Soviet command has alarming information about the new invention of the enemy. According to intelligence, the Nazis delivered a batch of new chemical shells filled with gas of tremendous destructive power to one of the sections of the Eastern Front. The Nazis want to test them in combat conditions, and then apply them on a large scale.

Sasha Rumyantsev, a long-range driver, becomes an unwitting accomplice in a crime committed by the head of the motor depot where he works. The honest guy is accused of stealing a car of a hard-to-find product. The collective of the motor depot amicably stands up to protect their comrade and helps the investigator, Colonel Afanasyev, to find and expose the true criminals.

The young chairman of the collective farm, Roman Baklanov, once made a mistake: having given in to his wife and her relatives, he helped out his father-in-law, who drank the collective farm's hay, and gave him a fictitious certificate. Then, due to Baklanov’s fault, an honest guy was arrested, and he again did not find the strength to correct the situation.
