Maris, having married Lynch, a worthless man who deserts her, taking their daughter Felice with him, marries mill owner Dwight Alden after receiving notification that her husband and child are dead. Henry Burgess favors a match between his ward, Virginia Parke, and his nephew, Peter Warburton, but she is only interested in her poodle, Frou Frou, and Peter devotes all of his attention to his business. To bring them together, Uncle Henry rents twin babies of the laundrywoman, Bridget McGroghan, placing one on Peter's doorstep and the other on Virginia's. Each discovering that the other has a baby, Peter and Virginia soon begin to share their views on child rearing and matrimony, and are about to become engaged when the babies disappear. Michael McGroghan, the twins' father, hires a pair of crooks to kidnap the babies so that he may collect the $25,000 bond that has been put up by Henry for their safe return. Peter, however, tracks down the kidnappers, and after the infants are returned to their grateful mother, he and Virginia look forward to having their own babies. (from the AFI)

Directors obviously took notice of her performance, because in 1917 she appeared in 17 feature films, in many of them playing the star role.

Gertrude Sawyer supports herself and an invalid sister on her wages as stenographer of a large corporation, but her income does not allow her to fulfill her longing to have her sister seek the remedy of the seaside, or to furnish what conduces to quick recovery. Gertrude's employer, Charles Hardin, has a business rival, Joe Elbert, whom he is anxious to crush. Eager to obtain inside information, Hardin so contrives matters that Gertrude quits his employ and secures a similar position with Elbert

The beginning of the film deals with the love romance of a deep-sea diver and the daughter of an old curio collector, whose past life takes up a good part of the film and reveals to the spectator his younger days as he tells them the story of his romance and marriage.
