Kumi (Yurika Nakamura) is a transfer student at a prestigious high school. She meets Hyo (Yosuke Sugino) who is handsome and kind. Kumi falls in love with him and has her first kiss with him, but Hyo is famous for being a womanizer at school. After she discovers his true side, she gets hurts, but her feelings for him doesn't go away.

The experiences of a group of young people interned at the Life Institute of Knowledge and Evolution (LIKE), a prestigious and cosmopolitan educational institution, with a supposedly modern and open educational system, but in reality it is deeply traditional and schematic.

Two transfer students, Atsuko Maeda and Onizuka Daruma came at the all-girls school Majisuka Gakuen. In this school violence and fighting are common among the Yankee students. Noisy and trouble maker Daruma made a fuss as soon as she entered the school, win in her first fight but then was beaten easily by another gang shortly after. In contrary to Daruma's bold-but-powerless attitude, Maeda who is truthfully a strong girl despite of her silent nature found Daruma is beaten by Team Hormon before her. The word "Majisuka?" (means are you serious?) instantly awaken her true nature and made her won the battle against Daruma's attackers easily, thus made a big fuss at the school and the news even reached the strongest fighting group, Rappapa. Afterwards, Daruma acknowledged Maeda as her boss and as a result the friendship between the two girls began to grow along with their fights with fellow students at their school.

In 2002 (Heisei 14), public relations officer Mikami Yoshinobu of D Prefectural Police, is having an intense confrontation with the correspondents’ club, over the issue of the anonymity of a perpetrator in a traffic accident that caused serious injuries. Meanwhile, the public relations office is informed by the top brass that the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department commissioner’s visit to the home of the family of the victim in “64”, an important unsolved case with its statute of limitation about to run out, has been decided one week later. The case which the police refer to internally as “64” is the kidnapping and murder of Shoko-chan which took place in just seven days in January 1989 (Showa 64). It was the worst in D Prefectural Police’s history. Mikami is under strict orders to obtain the family’s consent as well as to give the reporters’ questions beforehand. The visit is meant to emphasise the police’s resolve to put all effort into solving the case. However, the victim’s father, Amemiya Yoshio, rejects the commissioner’s visit and the correspondents’ club refuses to cooperate for the commissioner’s press conference. Mikami is torn between the top brass, which operates on organisational principles, and the correspondents’ club. The club denounces the complete change in Mikami’s attitude which had been open until then. In fact, Mikami has a big problem at home. His only daughter, Ayumi, has been missing since several months ago…

As science is growing ever closer to the taboo field of regenerative medicine, a mysterious new student named Maki Togawa begins attending the International Dolly Girls' College. Soon after, a series of strange and horrific events occur in and around the school, seemingly in the proximity of or due to new student Maki.

Saori Fujiwara comes back home after work. She opens a bamboo blind and burns incense. She purchased the bamboo blind and incense while in Bali. With the relaxed setting, Saori Fujiwara takes a nap, but, suddenly, a man dressed in clothing from the Heian period appears in front of her. She talks to him. Suddenly Saori Fujiwara thinks of the name Genji Hikaru, the protagonist of from classic literature "The Tale of Genji." She blurts out "Genji Hikaru" and the man unexpectedly hugs her.

A press conference is held by a large electrical manufacturer. The press conference discusses improper accounting by the company of 150 billion yen. Finance Consultant Ryo Koga (Kippei Shiina) manipulates the CEO of the electrical manufacturer. Yumiko Kobori of investigation unit 2 suspects fraud and feels it's not right that the company was able to avoid delisting on the stock market exchange. At that time, the head of the management audit department commits suicide. Shortly afterwards, Ryo Koga secretly meets with Shozo Higashida (Shin Takuma). Yumiko Kobori doubts whether the man committed suicide. Who is Ryo Koga ?
